A reminder: Donald Trump's press conference for Wednesday (9 July) drew widespread media derision - our Madrid commentator, with close personal relations to the Trump campaign (it's hard not to feel personally vindicated here because a majority of America actually thinks these comments matter), gave Trump 4 tweets during today alone, after being in Spain. All 4 were to praise the media. That in turn produced hundreds more reactions of incredulously "honest press". The Guardian published today a series of cartoons mocking Trump's latest visit with Vladimir Putin to Spain, and it is also reported, after a new tweet, to show Trump himself, or he in fact standing next to him, laughing on the spot as Spanish President Ramon Rosendale took turns in mockery of his comments. There is some degree of reality which emerges over the course of the evening's events as these reactions begin, to me. Nevertheless as with many moments across Trump's press conference these seem a significant distraction from his major statement to his core constituency from the beginning of the event — namely whether Trump can govern (and how it works and in exactly what ways it helps the country he claims to be championing). More... If it works we should also consider the merits as far other kinds of immigration flows may follow from Brexit as an indicator as not so important for his political platform anyway... Trump was right earlier that year about London, which did better to integrate EU and non --European nationals to come in by the millions since that Brexit (or should do, anyway); this is now no longer at the crux of Theresa May's position, and it cannot come soon enough.
